The Bucharest Municipal Sports Club has started the procedures for the construction of a modern multifunctional sports hall, which will have 824 seats and will be built on the site of the former “Mase Plastice” stadium, in the Pantelimon district.

The new arena is to be built on a plot of approximately 7,470 square meters, located near the Glass Park, near the Aspol Bucharest sports base.

The investment is estimated at approximately 8.3 million euros, and the project provides for a modern hall, adapted both for competitions and for training.

The arena will have 824 seats in the stands, and the total area will exceed 4,500 square meters, notes Profit.ro.

In 2022, Gazeta Sporturilor went to the sports base “Mase Plastice” to capture exclusive images, capturing the modern facilities left in disrepair.

This base was built in 2020, during the mandate of former mayor Gabriela Firea, who decided to make sports for children a priority. On an area of 7,500 square meters, the administration set up a soccer field with natural grass, a field with synthetic grass, two table tennis tables, changing rooms, parking and a relaxation area for participants in sports activities.

The works were coordinated by the Municipal Company “Sport pentru Toți Bucharest”, created especially for the management of these projects.

For almost a year, the base operated at full capacity, being the place where young people from Bucharest practiced their talent and spent their free time in safety. In 2021, however, the new administration led at the time by Nicușor Dan, closed the base and dissolved the responsible municipal company, putting it into bankruptcy. Since then, the land has remained unused and the facilities have gradually deteriorated.

What facilities will the new hall have?

Initial plans show a complex infrastructure:

  • 3 volleyball courts for training

  • 1 main field for international competitions

  • fitness room

  • medical office and physiotherapy area

  • changing rooms for athletes and officials

  • storage spaces for equipment

The project also includes infrastructure for supporters and teams:

The complicated history of the Pantelimon base

The land on which the hall is to be built has had several uses in recent years.

In 2017, during Gabriela Firea's mandate, a project for approximately 300 social housing was proposed here, which was never realized.

Later, in 2020, the area was quickly developed as a sports base, with natural and synthetic turf, changing rooms and facilities for the public. The investment, of approximately 190,000 lei, did not last long, however.

After the change of administration, the mayor Nicușor Dan decided to dissolve the company that managed the base, and the complex was closed less than two years after its inauguration.

In 2022, the land was transferred to the administration of the Bucharest Municipal Sports Club, which is now trying to restore a stable sports function to the area through this project.
