President Nicușor Dan declared, on Thursday, that “it is important for all public authorities” that the budget for 2026 enters into force before April 1, noting that he will promulgate it “the second the reasoning of the Constitutional Court comes”.
AUR challenged the laws of the state budget and the state social security budget at the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), arguing that the normative acts are “deeply flawed” and that there were “serious violations of the Constitution”. The institution rejected the referrals on Thursday.
The head of state stated that he is obliged by the Constitution to wait for the reasoning of the CCR's decision.
“It had not reached us at the time we left Cotroceni. The second the Constitutional Court's reasoning comes, we promulgate the budget law. It is important for all public authorities, you know that it enters into force three days after it is published in the Official Gazette, it is important for them that these three days be before March 31, so that from April 1 they can enter the budget”, explained Nicușor Dan, on Thursday, during press statements held on the sidelines participation in the Gala of the College of Doctors from Romania.
Nicușor Dan, about the parties in the coalition: “Everyone's desire is to continue governing together”
The president was asked about the tensions in the coalition, where the PSD criticizes the liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and announced an internal consultation on a possible exit from the government.
“In the discussions I had with all the parties in the coalition, everyone's desire is to continue to govern together (…). These four parties and the national minorities want to govern and, as I said, they are obliged to govern together,” answered Nicușor Dan.
He said he sees “rationality” in all parties in the current ruling coalition.
“In each of the four parties, I see rationality. Of course there are discussions, I see them, I know them, but I see, on the other hand, rationality, so, in the coming weeks, months, we will see contradictory arguments and discussions, but rational”, added the head of state.
Although PSD and PNL have accused each other of being close to AUR, both parties have denied these accusations and the president does not believe in such a scenario either.
“At the moment I don't see a PSD-AUR or PNL-AUR scenario”, said Nicușor Dan.
