The Turks silenced us with the “Yellow Wall”! Here's what the 3D scenography displayed at the start represented + what happened at the anthem

TURKEY – ROMANIA. The “hell” in Istanbul was not just a myth, the “tricolors” of Mircea Lucescu clashing with an unbreathable atmosphere from the tunnel. The Turkish federation prepared a spectacular 3D scenography, displayed just moments before the first whistle. The hosts respected our anthem, but then turned every moment of Romanian possession into a sonic nightmare.
And they are “hungry” for a World Cup, the Turks have prepared down to the smallest details the duel with Romania. The atmosphere became imposing since the singing of the anthem, moments accompanied by a spectacular visual moment.
From the 2002 generation to today's heroes
The Turks staged an impressive scenography in the stands, portraying the 2002 Generation of the selected team from the “Crescent Land”, which reached the small finals of the World Championship in South Korea and Japan. Next to this banner, another in which the current ones were painted: Calhanoglu, Arda Guler, Kenan Yildiz.
The background was provided by several red cardboards, along with the message “Aynı ruh, taşın hava”. Translated, “Same soul, same atmosphere.”
Throughout history, Turkey has participated in only two World Championships! He also got the ticket for Brazil 1950, but later withdrew due to financial problems. The first appearance came in 1954, when it did not go past the group stage. The second, in 2002, would go down in history: the Asian tour of South Korea and Japan.
The Turks finished second in a group with Brazil (1-2), Costa Rica (1-1) and China (3-0), beating the Central American side on goal difference. Then they took advantage of accessible opponents in the “eights” and “quarters”, each time winning 1-0 against Japan and Senegal respectively. They were eliminated by the same scoreline against the same Brazil, against whom they had also lost in the groups, and the South Americans would later lift the trophy, with a “doppietta” by R9 in the last act.
In the 3rd place match, Turkey edged past South Korea to take the bronze with a generation that would also be influenced by Mircea Lucescu. “Il Luce” had already flirted with Turkish football in the early 2000s and had worked with names such as Emre Asik, Bulent Korkmaz, Hasan Şaş or Ergun Penbe, all members of that team.
Respect to the anthem, but the “Yellow Wall” was overwhelmed
If recently there were unfortunate antecedents to the singing of the national anthem, the Turks respected the few tens of seconds of “Wake up, Romanians”. They stood, did not whistle, waiting for their moment to sing their own national anthem.
After our anthem, the more than 2,000 Romanians in the guest section could barely be heard, completely overwhelmed by the atmosphere dictated by the hosts.
