Iker Casillas' son is following in his father's footsteps and is already shining in goal

Martin Casillas, son of former goalkeeper Iker Casillas and Sara Carbonero, impressed in the opening match of the La Liga Futures U12 World Championship, already showing details reminiscent of his father.

The tournament brings together 20 teams from around the world in Madrid, but the inaugural match was an exhibition match between Spain's U12 team and a team of players from the rest of the world.

Martin follows in the footsteps of Iker Casillas

Spain's goal was defended by Martin Casillas, who, like his father, is left-handed. The young goalkeeper, who is playing in Real Madrid's youth groups, made excellent saves and showed outstanding foot skills.

The Futures tournament, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has served as a launching pad for world football stars such as Xavi, Iker Casillas himself, Santi Cazorla, Andres Iniesta, Fernando Torres, Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas, Gavi, Dean Huijsen or Lamine Yamal.

Iker Casillas played as a goalkeeper for Real Madrid and Porto. The Spanish goalkeeper played for 16 seasons at the Blanco group, after which he played for 5 years at Porto, and in 2020 he retired.

He has 167 caps in the Spanish national team and is a world champion and double European champion. He still has 3 Champions Leagues, 2 European Supercups, 5 titles and 2 cups in Spain in his trophy cabinet.

Iker Casillas played 725 matches for Real Madrid and scored 751 goals, and in 264 matches he did not score.
