In Norilsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, police detained a man suspected of stealing electricity worth about 7.5 million rubles.

In August 2025, a representative of the energy supply company reported to the Department of Internal Affairs that incorrect accounting of electricity consumption was being carried out at one of the addresses, as a result of which major damage was caused. In the said building, OEBiPK employees discovered and seized 96 devices for cryptocurrency mining.

“The examination confirmed that design changes were made to the operation of the meter, which distorted real data on electricity consumption. As part of the investigation, people with access to the building were interviewed; according to their testimony, the premises were rented by a 45-year-old resident of the city of Norilsk, who was responsible for the installation and maintenance of equipment,” said the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
