During Wednesday's meeting with students of the Academy of War Arts, the head of the Ministry of Justice, Waldemar Żurek, announced that the ministry is working, among others, on an amendment to the Penal Code aimed at tightening penalties for drunk drivers. He added that he was considering introducing regulations on punishing intentional disinformation.

“They laugh at the services”
The head of the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General took part in Wednesday's event entitled “Live with students – about law, the state and the future” organized at the headquarters of the Warsaw Academy of War Arts. Minister Żurek gave a lecture and answered students' questions.
When asked whether the Ministry of Justice plans to introduce changes to the Penal Code, i.e. tighten penalties or expand the list of crimes, Żurek said that the ministry is working on changes in this area. He added that these are “very fresh projects that have not yet been submitted to the government.”
– I would like to toughen the penalty for drunk drivers – said Żurek. – They cause death on the roads. They often receive suspended sentences, Żurek said. – I discovered what was happening in the so-called driving bans – over 20 people have over 10 driving bans (each). They laugh at the police, they laugh at the services (…), this is a plague in our country because the law no longer works – said the head of the Ministry of Justice.

During the meeting, Żurek added that he was also looking at the regulations on intentional disinformation in other countries – “not for espionage purposes, but for the purposes of disintegrating the state.” He emphasized that in the current “war-political” situation, intentionally misleading society may lead to its complete destruction. – (…) I am considering here whether the repetition of (…) mindless propaganda, consciously, (…) should be punished – said the head of the Ministry.
He noted that his proposal may be met with opposition regarding limiting the right to freedom of expression. – But if someone writes false facts and you don't check it and pass it on, spreading it to your friends on Facebook, you are repeating this Russian propaganda, even sometimes unconsciously, because you don't think about it, because you are not disciplined in any way for it – said the head of the Ministry of Justice. He emphasized that in times of hybrid war, this is a “terribly dangerous” phenomenon.
The Minister of Justice attends meetings with students quite regularly. Last November visited the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Last December he took part in the 2nd National Congress of Local Governments of Law Faculties at SWPS University and met with students of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw. According to scientific circles operating at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, on Wednesday evening the head of the Ministry of Justice is scheduled to take part in a meeting at the University of Warsaw.
