Darryl Nirenberg, the new ambassador of the United States in Bucharest, presented his story before his appointment in a video recording, declaring himself “grateful” to President Donald Trump for appointing him as a representative “in this remarkable country”, as the diplomat described Romania, reports News.ro.

“The partnership between the United States and Romania has never been stronger and more important than now. I look forward to supporting President Trump's “America First” agenda and strengthening the cooperation of the United States and Romania in three key areas,” he said, noting the strengthening of the partnership in the field of defense and security, as NATO allies, the expansion of trade relations, including in the field of energy and technology, and the deepening of close ties between the two countries.

Darryl Nirenberg presents, in a video recording published on the Facebook page of the US Embassy in Bucharest, his personal story – from his youth spent in the rural area of ​​New York, to the time he worked in the US Congress and beyond.

“I am grateful to President Trump for appointing me as his personal representative in this remarkable country. I grew up in a small town in the rural area of ​​New York state, where values ​​such as faith, family, community and hard work formed me as a person. These values, which are also shared by Romanians, are the basis of the solid relationship between our countries”, says Nirenberg.

He added that he is with his wife, Lori, and their dog Gatsby, that their son, Drew, has already visited Romania, and their daughter, Kelly, is due to arrive soon.

The ambassador reminded that 2026 is a special year for the USA

“We are all eager to discover the rich culture and traditions of Romania. The partnership between the United States and Romania has never been stronger and more important than now. I look forward to supporting President Trump's America First agenda and strengthening the cooperation of the United States and Romania in three key areas. Strengthening our defense and security partnership as NATO allies, expanding our trade relations, including in energy and technology, as well as deepening the close ties between the two countries”, added the US ambassador.

He pointed out that this is a special year, in which the USA celebrates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the nation.

“It is a moment that prompts us to reflect on the enduring principles enunciated by our founders, which define our country, including respect for fundamental freedoms; principles we proudly share with Romania. Lori and I look forward to meeting people from all over Romania and learning from you and strengthening the lasting friendship between the two peoples,” said Darryl Nirenberg.

He ended with the message “Thank you” in Romanian.

Darryl Nirenberg was nominated in June 2025 by Donald Trump for the post of US ambassador to Bucharest, and in December 2025 he was confirmed in office by the vote of the US Senate. He officially took up his post earlier this month.
