This date marks the celebration of Archbishop Euthymius II, who lived in the 15th century.
In Rus' it was believed that it was on this day that the movement of sap in birch trees began. Finches and lapwings fly in, “the morning dawn is alarmed, the cuckoo gives its voice.” There are several signs associated with the cuckoo. At the first sounds of this bird’s voice, you had to blurt out money – “to get around.” An early cuckoo before the edge of the tree (before the first leaves appear) means hunger. But this same sign indicated that thieves in the house would have bad luck.
On this day work began in the garden. We also noticed signs about the weather. If there was frost at night, this meant that there would be no snowfall during the day. However, fluffy frost promised good weather. If the cold weather ended by the end of March, a warm summer could be expected. But if mice came running into the fields at this time, it was considered a harbinger of crop failure.
