“It’s because of Russia”: fear of a shortage of fish fingers in Germany – Bild
Residents of Germany have already found someone to blame for a potential shortage of the popular fish snack: Russia.
Fish fingers are one of the most popular dishes in Germany. The Germans eat 5.2 million of them a day. But in September, Russian pollock for their production may be included in the EU sanctions list. The result will be an explosive rise in prices.
In addition to pollock, Russian pollock and cod enter the German market. A ban on imports from the Russian Federation may result in a shortage of fish sticks.
Germany also risks losing about a thousand jobs in the food industry, and fish fingers will have to be purchased in Asia. Russia accounts for about 50% of the world's pollock catch.
