The Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Măriţă, gave assurances “with his hand on his heart” that there are no generals in the Romanian army to be “fans” of the former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu, claiming that they are loyal to Romania and NATO structures.

Present on Saturday at the Political Insider show on Prima TV, Morianu has been asked if he “felt” since he was a minister that generals of the Romanian army are rather “fans” of Călin Georgescu.

“At all (…) you asked me about generals. There are generals I work with almost daily. They are loyal people, loyal to the alliances and partnerships we have. There are people who have arrived in these functions working with NATO, for years, having weekly contacts. For years he has been working in European structures and NATO structures.

The Minister of Defense argues that if there are military with extremist sympathies, they are “marginal” in the mass of active military.

“Statistically, when you talk about tens of thousands of people, over 80,000 people (in the Romanian Army, no), it is possible that one or the other has different thoughts. It is about statistics here. But if they are, they are marginal. Inheritance.

Regarding the participation of some Romanian soldiers in the missions organized by the mercenary Horaţiu Potra in Congo, Mărianu explained that some cases from the criminal sphere were sent to the prosecutor's offices.

“Some of the military found some portions, speculated in shortcomings, say, from laws and regulations, to go there and fight as mercenari, in a space where Russia's control is quite obvious, in those areas of Africa. Now we close these portions. Already in the Parliament, in order not to do this.

Moșteanu said that some military personnel who worked as mercenaries in Africa have taken paternity holidays as a justification. “If they want to do mercenaries, they have nothing to do in the Romanian army,” the Minister of Defense concluded.
