What does the teacher whom Mara Bănica accuses of beating her son say. “A Lying Story”

Journalist Mara Bănică complained that her son was beaten by Corneliu Riegler, a history teacher at the “George Coșbuc” Bilingual National College in Bucharest. Contacted by HotNews, the teacher claims that the incident took place outside the school and that he did not physically assault the boy.

After the complaint made by Mara Bănică, the police opened an investigation, and the teacher received a restraining order by which he was forbidden to approach the child.

“The lady never misses an opportunity to advertise herself through scandal”

Professor Corneliu Riegler claims that the situation was completely different from the one described by Mara Bănică.

“I was coming to school and I saw a boy climbing a thin fence ready to fall and I told him that he had better get off so that nothing would happen. The other boy, more massive and who had thrown his things over the fence to make fun of him, came towards me to ask who I was to observe them and kept pushing into me. I told him that I was Corneliu Riegler, a teacher at the nearby George Coșbuc College and he was pushing his chest towards me, asking me who I am,” Corneliu Riegler told HotNews.

The teacher says that he later found out that the boy pushing into him is the son of Mara Bănica.

“Mara Bănica made up a false story like I stopped her on the street and asked for her report cards and, because her boy didn't show his ID, I started punching and kicking him, which is a lie. The lady is an influencer and she doesn't miss any opportunity to advertise herself through scandal even using her own child. The class teachers always asked her to lower her behavior grade, but the mother is known as a person influential and immediately scandalous,” Riegler said.

He added that the prosecutor overturned almost all of the restraining order, leaving only the provision that the teacher not go near the boy's home.

“Which is not a problem because it is not a genuine case of harassment, and I don't even know where Mara Bănica is,” concluded Riegler.

Post by Mara Bănica

Mara Bănica stated, in a post on her Facebook page, that her son was beaten by the teacher.

“For me it was a hard weekend. Going with your child beaten by a professor to Forensic Medicine is not the most pleasant thing. I want to thank the case prosecutor. He interviewed witnesses, analyzed the situation and ordered that Professor Corneliu Riegler from the George Coșbuc Bilingual National College stay away from my child: 200 meters from our house and 5 meters from the school (here it will be interesting how we do)”, Bănica wrote.

The Capital Police reported in a statement, without naming those involved, that the police were alerted on Friday, March 20, about the conflict between the teacher and the child of Mara Bănica.

The journalist obtained a protective order for her son against the teacher involved.

“On March 20, 2026, the police officers from the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Police Section 8 were alerted, by calling 112, and later by complaint, by a woman, regarding the fact that her minor son had been physically assaulted by a teacher. In this context, the risk assessment form was completed, resulting in the existence of an imminent risk. Thus, the police issued a provisional protection order, valid for a period of 5 days, according to the legal framework in force”, the Capital Police sent in a statement.
