In order for bulbous flowers to germinate and bloom safely, it is important to protect them from fungi before planting. This is especially true in March and April, when the soil is still damp and the air is cool. Under such conditions, even a healthy bulb can begin to rot.
For protection, you only need ground cinnamon and wood ash. Both components are found in almost every home.
Before planting, inspect the bulbs and remove dry scales and damaged areas. Then dip each onion in a little water and roll in a mixture of one teaspoon of cinnamon and one teaspoon of sifted ash. You can also simply sprinkle the bottom, that is, the place where the roots will grow, with this mixture.
Cinnamon has natural antifungal properties, and the ash creates a slightly alkaline environment in which pathogens do not multiply. Together they form a soft but reliable protection.
After treatment, plant the bulbs immediately in well-drained soil. Don't go too deep. It is enough that there is a layer of earth on top two to three times the height of the bulb.
Bulbs treated in this way are less likely to get sick, take root faster and produce stronger seedlings.
