The order given by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense primarily concerns the bridges over the Litani River, two of which were already destroyed last Wednesday; the course of the river passes approximately 30 km from the Israeli border, writes Agerpres.

The operation aims to prevent the transport of weapons to the south and the “terrorist activities” of Hezbollah, Katz said.

The Israeli armed forces must too “to speed up the destruction of Lebanese houses in contact villages”as was already done in Beit Hanoun and Rafah in the Gaza Strip.

Since the beginning of the attacks by Israel and the United States against Iran, the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah has launched rockets into Israeli territory to support the Iranians, which led Israel to launch an offensive in Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on March 16 that it had begun a “targeted ground operation against key targets” in southern Lebanon, sending more troops to the area to expand a buffer zone after the Hezbollah group began attacking Israel earlier this month amid the war between the US, Israel and Iran.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said at the time that the operation would continue until Hezbollah no longer posed a threat to residents of northern Israel and compared the action to the war being waged against Hamas in Gaza.
