In spring, snakes wake up and increasingly appear near dachas. Most often, they do not come “by chance”, but where it is convenient for them: there is shelter, moisture and food. The good news is that the area can be made unattractive to them. There are three simple rules that really work.
The first rule is remove everything unnecessary. Snakes love to hide in piles of garbage, boards, stones, and tall grass. If there are such shelters on the site, the likelihood of an encounter increases sharply. A clean area and short-cut grass are already half the protection.
Second – get rid of food sources. Snakes come to places where there are mice and other small rodents. If burrows are noticed on the site, it is worth removing them and not leaving food, compost and waste accessible. Without food, snakes simply have nothing to do near the house.
Third – minimize moisture and shade. Damp, cool places attract snakes. It is better to water without over-watering, and thin out dense thickets and dark corners. Dry, open areas are not suitable for them.
Additionally, summer residents use deterrents: smells, vibrations, special devices. But the main effect is precisely the order on the site and the lack of living conditions. Snakes avoid places without shelter, food and moisture. In a well-kept area, the likelihood of their occurrence is minimal.
