In the second quarter of 2024, the average price of a burger at American fast food restaurants was $8.41, up 16% from five years ago. Even at McDonald's, the average price of a Big Mac (without fries and drink) was $5.29 in June, up 21% from 2019.
Burgers in the US have become so expensive that low-income consumers are starting to go to McDonald's less often. This led to the chain's first drop in sales in four years (down to minus 0.7%).
