A light plane crashed on Friday in the Moscow region, near the Oka River, killing the two people on board.
Information about the crash of the light plane was initially reported on the ASTRA Telegram channel, which in turn cites the posts of the MNS channel, which is responsible for emergency situations in the Moscow region.
According to these sources, the aircraft was mistaken for a drone and mistakenly shot down by the air defense forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The images published by MNS, showing the wreckage of the plane on the ground, were later picked up by Ukrinform and other publications that confirmed the occurrence of the incident and its seriousness.
The cited sources claim that the plane was flying near the city of Kolomna when the air defense forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense mistook it for a Ukrainian drone and opened fire on it, causing the aircraft to crash and the two people on board to die.
The Russian authorities, through the regional branch of the Ministry of Emergencies in Moscow, confirmed the crash and the death of the two people, but did not provide official details regarding the causes of the incident.
The incident occurs in a tense context, marked by the intensification of drone attacks on the Russian capital. The head of the municipality of Istra, Tatiana Vituseva, had previously reported the crash of the light plane that three drones had been shot down, and the mayor of Moscow, Serghei Sobianin, had specified that 21 drones were intercepted heading towards the city, so the hypothesis that it was mistaken for a drone is quite plausible, although not yet officially confirmed.
