Krasnoyarsk specialists found pig DNA in beef offal

April 23 12:30

Specialists from the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsK Agroindustrial Complex” found signs of falsification in meat by-products. This year, the laboratory tested 73 samples – beef lung and liver, broiler chicken stomachs, pig heart and spleen.

The samples were examined for safety: toxic elements, radionuclides, residues of drugs and hormones, pesticides, as well as for microbiological indicators – salmonella, listeria, E. coli, mold and yeast. In addition, the quality was checked: the proportion of fat, protein, moisture, phosphorus, sodium nitrite, as well as animal DNA and GMOs.

As a result, pig DNA was found in a large piece of boneless semi-finished beef by-product. This was not indicated in the labeling. Such a substitution reduces the cost of the product, but misleads buyers. It will not cause serious harm to health unless the person is allergic. Information about the violation was transferred to the regional department of Rosselkhoznadzor for action.
