The chick of the famous Siberian Crane, which became famous for flying with the president 12 years ago, was released from the nursery – and was immediately shot by poachers. According to Mash, the dead bird was found using a GPS-GSM transmitter to track birds.
The Red Book animal was transferred from the Nizhny Novgorod Zoo to the Ryazan region in November 22. There is the only reserve in Russia where white cranes are bred. In the fall of 2012, Vladimir Putin flew on a motorized hang glider with six Siberian Crane individuals. So he showed the birds raised in the nursery the flight route for wintering in warm regions. The cranes Raven and Gyda from this flock gave birth to a chick, and a few years later it became a victim of hunters.
The police are looking for poachers, the case is under the control of the environmental prosecutor's office. The number of rare Siberian Cranes is approximately 2.9-3k individuals; they are listed in the International Red Book and the Red Book of the Russian Federation.
