Sporting achieved a historic result and qualified for the “quarters” of the Champions League. The team coached by Rui Borges (44 years old) beat Bodo/Glimt, score 5-0, after losing the round due to no-show. Maximiliano Araujo (26 years old) was the hero of the Portuguese.

The Uruguayan scored the 4th goal in the first minute of extra time after being 3-0 down in regulation time. It became the fastest overtime success in the history of the League.

At the end, the footballer could hardly find his words, burst into tears and thanked God for this performance.

Maximiliano Araujo, in tears after Sporting – Bodo/Glimt 5-0: “History!”

The Uruguayan scored the winning goal, the most important of his career, as he himself said, and burst into tears.

At the end of the epic victory, the full-back did not hide his emotion, having already cried in celebration of the goal.

“It was a night that will go down in history. We knew we could do it. We knew it! We had seen their strengths but they hadn't seen ours because we didn't play a great game on their ground.

I think today we caused a lot of problems from the first minute, I think we deserved and deservedly won“, he emphasized, quoted by abola.pt.

Asked if Sporting had learned from the mistakes of the first leg, Araujo had a firm answer: “Yes. Many things were said, that it was impossible or almost impossible, but in the dressing room and everyone at Sporting knew it was possible.

I think if there was a team that could handle it, it was us. I think today proved that here, at home, we are very strong. I also think that the match there had to stay that way, because that's where it was going to happen. God prepared this and nothing more, I just thank God“, he added.

We are at Sporting. If we wanted to be among the best, we had to play a perfect match. I think we did that today, a perfect match. We talked to each other, we had to give everything.

I also knew that those coming in would do great and I think those coming in had a good match. Everyone was just focused on winning, on turning things around and we deserve this win.

It's a great emotion because it's always nice to score goals. I dreamed of scoring in the Champions League here at home. I want to dedicate the gap to my entire family, especially my wife, who always believed, and to God.
