On this day, Aleksey Alekseevich Badonyi-Nandor was born – sculptor, author of the sculpture of the People's Army soldier on the museum building on Volochaevskaya Hill, veteran of the Volochaevskaya battle. A. Badonyi is Hungarian by nationality. In 1912 he graduated from the Higher Industrial and Art School in Budapest with a degree in sculptor.

He was a participant in the First World War, a prisoner of war who remained in Russia after the war.

During the Civil War from 1918-1920. fought in a partisan detachment on the side of the Red Army. Participant in the assault on Volochaevka in February 1922.

In 1928, according to the design of A. A. Badonya, a sculpture of a Red Army soldier was erected on the June-Koran hill on top of the monument-museum building.

The history of the creation of this almost three-meter sculpture is interesting. Here's how archival materials talk about it:

“The figure of the Red Army soldier was approved by the city and regional authorities and the labor teacher of the Khabarovsk Pedagogical College Badoni and students worked on it.” In the book “Volochaevskaya Victory” (6+) by the authors N.I. Ryabov, M.G. Stein it is written: “the figure was not included in the project. It appeared on the initiative of the labor teacher of the Khabarovsk Pedagogical College Badonia.

One day A. A. Badonyi brought to the workshop a miniature figure of a Red Army soldier sculpted from clay, who raised an equally miniature rifle above his head, even the trigger of which was precisely made. Badonyi was a man of few words; he still had poor command of Russian speech and spoke with a strong accent. “Here,” he said, “we will enlarge this figure several hundred times… A few days later, work began to boil. Some carried clay to the technical school site, others built a frame for a future sculpture from water pipes. For a long time, the guys, under the leadership of Badonya, sculpted a huge figure of a Red Army soldier. And when it was ready, they began to make molds from plaster. Concrete was poured into these forms. After long and hard work, the concrete parts of the sculpture were finally cast. They were to be taken to Volochaevka and mounted on the roof of the monument.

First, the sculpture was placed at the entrance to the building, the construction of which was being completed. Then, before completing the work, the sculpture was concreted on the roof of the monument-museum.”
