Delcy Rodriguez rejects Colombia's offer. It talks about unequal conditions


In a statement issued on Saturday, Rodriguez emphasized that her country's authorities would like to accept Gustavo Petro's proposal, but due to the US sanctions against Venezuela, it is not in the same situation as Colombia.
“We cannot operate on a level playing field and we must support our country's production in order to be able to conduct foreign trade in these unequal conditions that will benefit the Venezuelan people,” Rodriguez explained. She also appealed to Donald Trump to finally lift the American sanctions imposed on Venezuela.

No agreement on tariffs
On Friday, Venezuelan authorities unexpectedly canceled Rodriguez's meeting with the Colombian president without giving a reason. However, they emphasized that the authorities in Caracas are ready to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.

The planned event, during which the authorities of both countries planned to discuss, among others: situation in the border areas, was supposed to be the first meeting with a foreign leader since Rodriguez began holding the highest office in the country.
Delcy Rodriguez took over as president of the country after the US military attacked Venezuela on January 3, during which American soldiers captured the country's current president, Nicolas Maduro. The Venezuelan leader, who was transported to New York with his wife, is accused in a local court of, among others, about “narco-terrorism conspiracy”
