After the increase, the A2 motorway joined the top of the most expensive motorways in Europe. With an average cost of PLN 0.80 per kilometer, it ranks only behind five toll sections in France and one in Italy. In countries with vignette systems, even a month of using highways is cheaper.

To travel by passenger car on the toll section of the A2 motorway from Nowy Tomyśl to Konin, you have to pay PLN 120. Using a 150-kilometer section costs PLN 0.80/km. It was already expensive before the increase, but now the Greater Poland section of the A2 has become one of the most expensive motorways in Europe.

According to the price lists of European motorways, you have to pay more only in France, where we can find the most expensive European motorway. It is only a 21-kilometer section of the A14 route, connecting Paris with Normandy. To travel on the road starting right next to the Champs Elysées in Paris, in the La Defense district, and leading to Orgeval, you have to pay up to EUR 10, or approximately PLN 2.05/km. This rate applies during peak hours, i.e. between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

However, outside the designated hours, traveling on the toll section of the A14 near Paris costs EUR 6.40, or approximately PLN 1.30/km.

You have to pay slightly more – approximately PLN 1.40/km when driving through northern Italy on the A35 motorway from Milan to Brescia, which is currently the second most expensive motorway on the Old Continent.

You also have to pay more than on the toll section of the Polish A2 motorway (from approx. PLN 85/km to PLN 1.10/km) on five other motorways in France: the 24-kilometer section of the A355, i.e. the Strasbourg bypass, the A404 near Lyon, and the A88 and A150 in Normandy.

150 km in Poland, two months of driving in Austria

Importantly, in countries where vignettes apply, we will pay less for using the motorways for an entire month than for driving the entire toll section of the A2 motorway. Monthly vignettes in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, converted into Polish currency, currently cost PLN 78.20 and PLN 73.20, respectively.

In Austria, for a small fee (PLN 133.10), we can drive on highways for two months. In Switzerland, a vignette valid for one year costs 40 Swiss francs, or approximately PLN 188.

Toll increase on the A4 before Easter

The A4 toll motorway from Katowice to Krakow is also heading towards the European leader, unfortunately only in terms of prices. From April 1, 2026, just before Easter, you will have to pay PLN 36, i.e. PLN 0.60/km, to drive the 60-kilometer section of the road that is constantly being renovated.

Let us remind you, however, that the contract with the current concessionaire – Stalexport Autostrada Małopolska SA – will expire on March 16, 2027.
