Germans refuel in Poland. There are limits on them at the border

According to the “Maerkische Allgemeine Zeitung” daily, the war in Iran and the unstable situation on global fuel markets mean that prices at German gas stations already exceed EUR 2 (approx. PLN 8.60) per liter. Meanwhile, in Słubice, right next to the border, drivers can count on much more favorable rates.
Not only Berlin residents decide to go to Poland in search of cheaper fuel. According to “Maerkische Oderzeitung”, drivers from Saxony-Anhalt cover over 180 km to reach Słubice. Some of them do not limit themselves to refueling their cars and bring additional canisters to Poland to stock up on fuel at a lower price.

While refueling in Poland is legal, there are limits on the amount of fuel that can be transported across the border. Each driver can refuel with a full tank and transport an additional 20 liters of fuel in a canister for their own use.
“The problem only arises when someone transports more than the capacity of their own tank and an additional 20 liters of fuel across the border,” emphasizes Lisa Porschmann, spokeswoman for the German customs service, quoted by “Maerkische Allgemeine Zeitung”.
Customs services regularly check drivers at the border. Exceeding the limits may result in the need to pay tax on the excess.
