Zelensky, at the 86th Air Base in Borcea: “Strengthening the Air Force of Ukraine provides more security to Europe”

President Volodymyr Zelenski and Minister Radu Miruță discussed on Thursday, in Borcea, the strengthening of defense capabilities on NATO's Eastern Flank and the continuation of training programs for Ukrainian pilots. Miruță emphasized that Romania and Ukraine remain strategic partners in the field of security and defense.

Romanian and Ukrainian officials discussed the continuation of Ukrainian pilot training programs as part of allied efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian air force.

“President Zelenski's visit underlines the close cooperation between Romania and Ukraine in the field of security and defense and sends a clear message of solidarity and coordination between partners, in the context of security challenges in the Black Sea region”, declared the minister Radu Miruță.

After the visit, Volodymyr Zelensky published images from Borcea on social networks and sent a message of thanks to international partners who support the defense of Ukraine.

“I am grateful to everyone who works to protect Ukraine and to everyone who supports our defense. We are working to strengthen the protection of our airspace. Strengthening the Air Force of Ukraine means a greater ability to deter Russian aggression and provide more security for Ukraine and all of Europe. Thank you to the United States and every country that helps protect lives!”the Ukrainian president said.

Minister Radu Miruță emphasized that the strength of a country is not only in weapons, money or technology, but above all in people.

“There are moments when you understand that the strength of a country is not only in weapons or money. It lies, first of all, in its people. (…) President Zelenski repeatedly thanked for the support provided by Romania. For my part, I thanked him for the resistance of the Ukrainian people, which keeps the aggression of Putin's Russia away from our borders. He added that discussions with Ukrainian pilots in training highlighted the excitement and responsibility with which they view their mission, confirming the importance of strengthening allied air capabilities.

The event was also attended by General Gheorghiță Vlad and Lieutenant General Leonard Baraboi, reinforcing the message of partnership and solidarity between Romania and Ukraine in the face of security challenges in the Black Sea region.
