Robert Fico will visit Moscow. He will meet with Zelensky beforehand

Fico spoke with Zelensky by phone on Saturday. “We agreed to meet briefly on Monday in Yerevan,” he said later. He also informed about future mutual visits to Bratislava and Kiev. According to Fica, it was also agreed to continue cooperation within the framework of joint meetings of governments.
Tense relations between Fico and Zelensky
“I confirmed that Slovakia supports Ukraine's ambitions to join the EU, because Slovakia wants Ukraine, as our neighbor, to be a stable and democratic country,” Fico stressed. He added that in his conversation with Zelensky he noted that no peace agreement in the armed conflict with Russia is possible without the consent of the Ukrainian side. The Prime Minister noted that although Slovakia and Ukraine have different views on some issues, they share a common interest in maintaining good and friendly relations.
After forming a government in autumn 2023, the Slovak Prime Minister declared that he would not provide military assistance to Ukraine. However, it did not block the possibility of purchasing weapons from private Slovak companies. In December 2024, Fico paid a previously unannounced visit to Moscow, where he talked with President Vladimir Putin about energy cooperation. In May 2025, Fico was the only EU politician to participate in the anniversary celebrations of the end of World War II in Moscow.
Also this year, the Slovak politician will be in Moscow in connection with the anniversary of the end of World War II. According to the latest information, the Czech Republic has given consent for the flight of the Slovak government plane, and the plane will most likely fly over Germany, Sweden and Finland later.
The tense relations between Fico and Zelensky worsened in January this year. after Russian airstrikes damaged the Druzhba pipeline, which, according to Fico, the Ukrainian side did not want to repair and thus prevented the transit of Russian oil to Slovakia and Hungary. Fico accused Zelensky of lying and intentionally harming Slovak interests.
Fico also opposes the so-called zero option in the European Union, as the decision to abandon Russian gas and oil is called. April 24 this year Slovakia filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the EU. According to Bratislava, energy decisions that were taken by majority vote are in fact sanctions that should be adopted unanimously.
