Ghost landfills, toxic landfills and the silence of officials: how Ukraine “burys…
The production of Ukrainian gas is breaking records, but along with the profits, the environmental threat is growing. StopCor journalists checked landfills that are supposed to dispose of dangerous drilling waste. The results are shocking.
🔻 Most permits are a formality. Landfills exist only on paper or are ordinary garbage dumps in the open, near residential buildings (TOV “VTORMAG”, “V-PLAST”, “VINEKORESURS”, “EKO-SYLA”, “SP-KAPITALL”).
🔻 In Kamiansk, Boryspil district, Kremenchuk, Kharkiv region, sludge is poured into the ground without treatment, often without the consent of local authorities (ECOPROM ENERGY INVEST LLC, ECOINVESTGRUP, KP KOMUNALNYK, SBTU LLC, ECO-ENERGOPROM LLC, ECOFORS LLC, VITABUD LLC).
🔻 Some of the companies that declare sludge disposal are actually not working. Their “enterprises” are abandoned buildings or vacant lots.
🔻 In Smirnivka in the Kharkiv region, there is a real toxic center, where the locals suspect that even radioactive waste is taken.
🔻 Almost all objects are either illegal or dangerous.
Naftogaz reports record production, but drilling mud is often simply poured into the ground – state control over waste is lost.
