FC Botoșani presented the figures of the fiscal balance for the year 2025, and the published data raises several questions. Valeriu Iftime, the owner of the team, gave explanations for GSP.ro.

After FC Argeș, a team that only received 3.3 million euros from the state in the last year, now it's the turn of FC Botoșani to make public the financial figures that were approved by the Board of Directors and submitted, according to the law, to the Ministry of Finance.

Double sponsorships at FC Botoșani against FCSB! Who gave the money?

Perhaps the most important chapter in the tax declaration of those from Botoșani is the “Sponsorships and advertising” chapter. If in 2017 only 445,000 euros entered the club, now no less than 6 million euros appear in the right of the club!

The amount is colossal if we refer to the money that FCSB, the champion of Romania, reported in 2024. Then, in the fiscal documents, Gigi Becali's club received only 2.5 million euros from “sponsorships and advertising”.

  • At the moment, the Moldovans have two partners on the front of their jerseys: the betting company Unibet and Elsaco. Iftime is the president of the Elsaco group, which operates in the following fields: energy, water and sanitation, automation and SCADA, energy efficiency solutions, IT&C solutions, residential smart metering.

In the nine years we analyzed, almost 17 million euros entered the club's accounts, the most in 2024 and 2025, over ten million.

Valeriu Iftime: “If I don't have other money, I sponsor by myself…”

Gazeta Sporturilor called Valeriu Iftime to talk openly about this topic. How much money came in from “sponsorships and advertising” from his companies?

The club where it's raining in the dressing room has received €6 million in sponsorships in 2025! » The man who gave the money resigned:

Valeriu Iftime, the patron of FC Botoșani

“Obviously it's money I put in from my companies… Six million euros in 2025, that is money lost. Ha, ha, ha! Where can I get them back? I never get them back. I put them in the club to help the team so that some people don't jump into my head that the crazy Iftime doesn't help Botoșaniul”, declared the businessman.

Iftime points to the money coming from the state to other clubs in the Superliga. In 2024 and 2025, FC Botoșani received ZERO public money. By comparison, only last year FC Argeș collected 3.3 million euros from the town hall of Pitesti.

“It's an unequal battle between cities… I do sponsorships to keep the team alive, to be cursed! Others receive millions and millions of euros from the mayor's office, I get zero lei… Why did they cut our funding? Well, if they don't like football, they don't want to give money… What more can I do?”.

  • It should be noted that in the period 2017-2023, FC Botoșani received 1.1 million euros from the state, three times less than what Argeșul received only in 2025.

7.2 million eurosis the amount that FC Botoșani collected in the period 2017-2025 from the sale of footballers! The peak was recorded in 2019, when the financial documents indicate the sum of 1.875 million euros from the transfer of players

One million euros come from television rights

Another chapter analyzed was TV rights. The team finished the year at the top of the Superliga, but in 2026 it collapsed, missed the play-offs, and the “principal” Leo Grozavu was fired.

For 2025, Moldovans reported to the state 990,000 euros from TV rights. The amount would have been higher if, last season, the team had not played in the second part of the ranking.

310,000 euros came from the fans

With a stadium that is about to fall, without decent conditions for spectators, FC Botoșani obtained the most money from ticket sales in 2025! The supporters transferred 310,000 euros to the club's accounts, the largest amount since 2017.

“I don't know if you know, but it's raining in our dressing room! It's actually raining in the dressing room… We'd like the conditions of the other clubs and we're not asking for much. Just some new dressing rooms.” said Sebastian Mailat in an interview with GSP.ro.

Even with such precarious conditions for both the players and the team's fans, the supporters are a major creditor in terms of the money they put into Iftime's club accounts year after year.

In the analyzed period, starting in 2017 and until now, fans have bought tickets and season tickets worth 1.26 million euros.

The club is in the red after 4 years of losses

Another extremely important chapter in the life of a club is profit. After a four-year hiatus, FC Botoșani can boast that it is on the plus side after drawing a line at the end of last year. If in 2024 it reported a loss of almost 1.1 million euros, now the club's profit is only 48,000 euros.

“I took the club to the top because I dreamed of being in the play-offs, playing in Europe, getting my license and being among the best. That's life, what else can we do?! We made great efforts in everything… If I tell someone that I lost 27-28 million euros from 2013 to date, one hundred percent say I'm crazy“, explains Valeriu Iftime for GSP.RO.

It should be noted that in 2024, the club had the biggest losses, after in the first monitored analysis years (2017-2020) the team was always in the red. From 2021, however, the losses were visible.

How to sell players like we used to do if the team is playing really bad?! It's normal that nobody looks to buy players from me when I'm playing in the play-outs… That's life, in the current season I haven't sold anything, nothing… When the team plays badly, we have nothing to sell
