The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, announced on Friday that his party will convene next week the permanent national office to analyze the situation created within the ruling coalition, as a result of “positions of partners towards the organization of the official ceremonies dedicated to former President Ion Iliescu” after the conflict with the USR.
In a message published on Facebook, Grindeanu stressed that the recent actions and statements of some coalition members, considered contrary to the legal obligations and the norms of institutional conduct, affect not only the relations between the parties, but also the balance necessary to operate the government.
“The Social Democratic Party considers that, regardless of the ideological differences or the historical interpretations, the respect for the state institutions, towards the constitutional norms and towards the historical memory must prevail in the political life. The organization of the official ceremonies provided by law in the case of the death of a former head of state is not an optional issue, but a non -institutional issue, Fritz.
The meeting, scheduled to take place on Monday, aims to evaluate the impact of these events on the operation of the coalition and establish a clear position of the PSD regarding the continuation of the collaboration under mutual respect and constructive dialogue, according to the PSD interim chief.
The leader of the Social Democrats reaffirmed the party's commitment for what he called a stable governance in the interest of the citizens, but emphasizing that respect and good faith between the coalition are necessary.
National mourning, subject of discord between PSD and USR
The death of Ion Iliescu created tensions in the ruling coalition. PSD and USR are in conflict after the party led by Dominic Fritz asked in the government meeting on Tuesday night not to be declared a national mourning day and announced that the party members will not participate in the official ceremonies. After that, the Social Democrats decided not to attend the coalition sessions.
The interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, reasoned that “the USR will not show political maturity and will review their attitude.”
“History cannot be mystified! And those who judge today, will be judged tomorrow, in their turn! PSD has respect for the institutions of the Romanian state! Political maturity and will review their attitude! ”, Said Sorin Grindeanu, in a message published in the online environment.
USR announced, through the president's voice, that he tried to block state funerals and national mourning in the case of Ion Iliescu.
“Out of respect for the victims of the Revolution and Mining, USR has proposed in the government meeting not to be a national mourning. We take note of the Government's decision. The USR representatives will not participate in the funeral,” Dominic Fritz said on Tuesday night.
Shortly after, the former prime minister and leader of the Social Democrats Marcel Ciolacu published, in the context of the death of Ion Iliescu, an appeal to his party colleagues asking them to ignore “all the political and political misery”. He thus sent arrows to the USR, although he did not mention the name of the current PSD governance partner.
And the former PSD Minister of Defense Mihai Fifor, current parliamentarian and PSD Arad president, attacked the current Minister of Defense, from USR, Ionuț Moșteanu. Although not called it, Fifor said that the position of Moșteanu “obliges you to honor”: “Unfortunately, there are people who do not stick this honor.”
