In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, free HPV vaccinations will begin for the first time

12 March 12:02

Minister of Health of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexey Konovalenko signed an order on organizing vaccination against the human papillomavirus (HPV).

As Ilya Zaitsev, Chairman of the Committee on Health Protection and Social Policy of the Legislative Assembly, said, the program is being implemented for the first time. Funds for it, by decision of the governor and with the active participation of deputies, were provided in the regional budget for the current year.

“Following consultations with experts, it was decided that this year girls 12 years old will be able to get free vaccinations. The age was not chosen by chance. It is at this age that vaccination is considered most effective – before the onset of sexual activity, when the most stable immune response is formed. This practice is used in many countries around the world and is enshrined in clinical guidelines. Therefore, the program logic is simple: Every year, first of all, we will vaccinate girls who turn 12 years old,” Zaitsev explained.

At the first stage, in 2026, free vaccination will be available to girls 12 years of age from several categories: for medical reasons – from a risk group with a hereditary predisposition to cervical cancer; from large families; orphans and those without parental care (including adopted children, those under guardianship or in foster families); HIV-infected.

“2026 was initially planned as a pilot year – it is important for us to work out the organization of vaccination, patient routing and assess demand. The next stage is the purchase of the vaccine (tenders will be announced soon) and the organization of the campaign itself. After delivery of the drug, medical organizations will begin vaccination,” the deputy explained.

According to doctors, inHuman papillomavirus is one of the key factors in the development of cervical cancer, and vaccination of adolescents is recognized throughout the world as one of the most effective measures to prevent this disease. It is also believed that vaccination at this age provides maximum protection for reproductive health.
