Sorin Grindeanu, in the Parliament, about the location of American equipment and forces in Romania: “The vote for this decision is a vote for the real safety of Romania”

Sorin Grindeanu claimed on Wednesday, in the plenary of the Parliament, that the approval of the request of the United States regarding the location of American planes and troops in Romania “represents a natural and necessary gesture”, in the current security context. Opposition parliamentarians from the Pace-Intâi Romania group disrupted his speech.
“We are in an unprecedented international security context. The conflict in the Middle East overlaps the war in Ukraine, which is already in a prolonged phase. This accumulation of tensions forces the European Union and NATO to quickly and realistically adapt their economic and military approaches”, he declared in plenary.
Grindeanu said that Romania, as a member state of the two organizations, “has not only the right, but also the responsibility to actively contribute to the consolidation of regional security, especially in the area of South-Eastern Europe and the Black Sea”.
“Our strategic positioning on the Eastern Flank gives us an essential role in countering security risks, and this role cannot be assumed only declaratively, but through concrete and coherent decisions,” the PSD leader continued.
“In this context, approving the request of the United States is a natural and necessary gesture. It is a clear signal that Romania respects its commitments and that it is a serious partner, capable of effectively contributing to its own security and that of its allies. Ladies and gentlemen, A strong alliance is based on mutual trust and consistency. Hesitations or retreats in the face of assumed responsibilities weaken relations between allies and can generate dangerous vulnerabilities”, Sorin Grindeanu also declared.
He also said that the strategic partnership with the United States “brought major benefits to Romania”.
“The vote for this decision is a vote for Romania's real security. It is a proof of responsibility, consistency and maturity as an allied state. Authentic sovereignty is not built through isolation or symbolic gestures, but through stability, solid alliances and decisions that protect the national interest in the long term,” Grindeanu concluded.
The quaestors were called several times to intervene to restore order in the plenary session by the chairman of the meeting, Mihai Coteț.
