On the eve of Easter, many housewives are looking for safe and unusual ways to color eggs. One popular natural method is to use red cabbage, which produces a beautiful bluish or soft blue hue without artificial colors. This method is considered environmentally friendly and is suitable for those who prefer natural ingredients for holiday dishes.
How to dye eggs with red cabbage
For coloring you will need a small head of red cabbage.
- Finely chop the cabbage and add water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for about 15–20 minutes.
- The resulting broth is filtered to remove pieces of the vegetable.
- Pre-boiled hard-boiled eggs are placed in the cooled solution.
To make the color more saturated, the eggs are usually left in the broth for several hours or overnight.
How to make patterns on Easter eggs
If you want to get a decorative effect, before coloring the egg you can:
- wrap with thread or rubber bands;
- attach small leaves or stencils;
- use pieces of cloth or gauze.
After dyeing, light patterns and interesting designs appear on the shell.
Red cabbage contains natural pigments – anthocyanins. It is they who give the broth a rich color, which colors the shell. Therefore, this method is considered one of the easiest ways to make natural Easter eggs without using chemical dyes.
