Mircea Rednic (63 years old), last on Standard Liege's bench, announced that he has been back in Romania for a few weeks and that he is preparing to return to coaching, revealing that he had some discussions in the winter, including with Superliga teams.

Mircea Rednic's second adventure on Standard Liege's bench lasted only 5 matches. The “Puri” started his tenure in Belgium well earlier this season and had collected 7 points after the first 3 legs, recording two wins, 2-0 with RAAL La Louviere and 2-1 with Genk, and a draw, 1-1 with Dender.

However, two consecutive failures followed with the same score, 0-3, with Royale Union SG and Cercle Brugge, and Rednic was dismissed on August 27, 2025.

Mircea Rednic is preparing to return to coaching: “I have been in Romania for several weeks”

I have been in Romania for several weeks. I am well, healthy, strong. That's the most important thing. We also had some discussions in the winter, including from the SuperLiga, but also from abroad. From the summer I would like to take over a team. I also needed some time to take care of myself.

I also had knee surgery, because the previous one had not been successful. I needed some minor tweaks, so to speak. It was not a difficult intervention, but, you know how it is, you need a few weeks of rest, recovery”, said Mircea Rednic, according to digisport.ro.

During his career, Mircea Rednic also trained teams such as: Rapid Bucharest (3 terms), FCM Bacău, Al-Nasr, Universitatea Craiova, FC Vaslui (two terms), Dinamo Bucharest (5 terms), Alania, Khazar, Astra Ploiești/Giurgiu, Petrolul Ploiești (two terms), CFR Cluj, Gent, Mouscron, Al-Faisaly, Poli Iași, Viitorul Constanța, UTA Arad and Standard Liege (two warrants).

Mircea Rednic won 5 trophies throughout his coaching career. “Puriul” won the League 1 title with Rapid in 2003 and with Dinamo in 2007, the Romanian Cup with Rapid in 2002, the Romanian Supercup with Rapid in 2003 and the Azerbaijan Cup with Khazar Lankaran in 2016.

As a player, Rednic played for Corvinul Hunedoara, Dinamo, Bursaspor, Standard Liege, Saint-Truiden and Rapid.
