Bolojan, on the repatriation of Romanians from the Middle East: “We will do an in-depth analysis of the way it went”

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan announces that the flights repatriating Romanians from the countries involved in the conflict in the Middle East will continue, with the head of government stating that an analysis will be made of how the repatriation operation went, after its conclusion.

In a post on Facebook, the Prime Minister states that 273 Romanians arrived in Bucharest on Monday morning on two flights that took off from Muscat, the capital of Oman, being Romanians who were brought from the United Arab Emirates with a convoy of nine coaches.

Repatriation flights will continue

Also, another 191 Romanians from Doha were brought back to the country on a plane that took off from Saudi Arabia. At the same time, the Head of Government announces that “at least one more flight” will be organized from Muscat, through the Civil Protection Mechanism.

“We thank the authorities of the United Arab Emirates because, in accordance with the agreement we established at the end of last week, they opened the flight path for two daily Fly Dubai flights to Romania. The ones operated today brought 164 Romanian citizens to Bucharest, along with citizens from other EU states. According to the information at the moment, there are tickets available for similar flights in the following days,” said Prime Minister Bolojan.

Other flights are to bring tourists previously transported to the Emirates through travel agencies, with airlines obliged to bring them back to the country.

“The absolute priority is to bring the Romanians home, safely, through assisted, commercial flights or through the European Mechanism. After this essential objective will be fulfilled, we will do an in-depth analysis of the way in which the repatriation operation of Romanian citizens was organized and proceeded”, concluded Ilie Bolojan.

Ponta's accusations against the MAE

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta accused the Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu of being personally involved so that his daughter would not be on the list of Romanians brought to the country with the flights organized by the Romanian state.

“Yes, Mrs. Țoiu took my minor daughter, Irina, off the plane that was bringing Romanians. Irina was not on vacation, but at New York University in Abu Dhabi. She personally called the consul in Dubai not to let her get on the plane to Bucharest, even though she is a minor and is alone there. She screamed at the consul that the girl is a “vulnerability” and that he forbids her to get on the plane,” Ponta said on March 5, in a statement to the Daily.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Țărnea, stated on Friday, March 6, in a press conference, that the daughter of Victor Ponta and Daciana Sârbu did not appear in the consular records nor in the system managed by the MAE for crisis situations.

Ponta's daughter arrived in Romania with a line race

The daughter of former prime minister Victor Ponta arrived in Romania on Friday. The information was confirmed by a post on Facebook by Daciana Sârbu, who said that she “held her child in her arms”, after the family publicly accused the authorities a day ago of blocking the repatriation of the teenager.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who offered me help. Thanks to you today I held my child in my arms. Thank you for your messages of encouragement and for your good thoughts, which made me feel less alone”, wrote Daciana Sârbu.

Grindeau requests checks at the MFA

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu asked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Monday to send the Control Body to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to check the situation related to the repatriation of Victor Ponta's daughter from Dubai.

“I am waiting for answers from the prime minister, from Ilie Bolojan. He is the one who leads the government team and has all the necessary levers to clarify the situation, and I would suggest, as a matter of urgency, to send the Prime Minister's Control Body to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to verify the information (…) to see the real situation and present it urgently to the Romanians,” said Sorin Grindeanu, quoted by Agerpres.
