Lionel Messi is closing in on another impressive career milestone after scoring in Inter Miami's 2-1 win at DC United in Major League Soccer.

The Argentinian scored in the 27th minute with a fine finish over the goalkeeper, thus achieving his third goal of the season. Thanks to this success, Messi has reached 80 goals for Inter Miami, and his career total has risen to 899.

Winner of the eighth Ballon d'Or and almost 39 years old, Lionel Messi has 672 goals for FC Barcelona, 32 for Paris Saint-Germain and 115 for the Argentine national team. Saturday's win moved Inter Miami into third place in the MLS Eastern Conference with six points from three legs.

Louis Munteanu entered the game in the 61st minute and brought more dynamism to DC United's attack. Towards the end, the Romanian was very close to a spectacular goal. He sent a volley that went inches wide of Inter Miami's goal post.

It was his third appearance as a substitute, but this time he played almost half an hour, his longest so far.
Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 17th minute, with an effective shot from the edge of the box, signed by Rodrigo De Paul, Lionel Messi's Argentinian teammate. Ten minutes later, Messi doubled the lead, receiving a perfect deep pass from Mateo Silvetti and finishing elegantly past the advancing goalkeeper, Sean Johnson.
United came back after the break and reduced the deficit in the 75th minute through Israeli striker Tai Baribo. However, Miami withstood the pressure and held on for the win until the end.
