Donald Trump: “We will keep to a minimum” American deaths in the war with Iran

President Donald Trump has said he plans to keep the number of American deaths in the Iran war “to a minimum,” citing the transfer he is taking part in Saturday of six American soldiers killed in the conflict and saying the military action he ordered was a “service” to the world.

“Right after that, I'm going to leave for Dover,” Trump said at the Shield of the Americas summit in Doral, Florida.

“A very sad situation to meet the families of heroes coming home from Iran, coming home in a different way than they thought they would come home. But they are great heroes in our country and will continue to be so,” said the US president.

“When it comes to war, there's always that — but we're going to minimize it, I think Pete,” Trump said, referring to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. The White House leader added that American military action in the region “will be something, a service that we really provide, not for the Middle East, but for the whole world.”

“These were sick people, very sick people,” Trump said, referring to the Iranian regime.

Last week, Hegseth suggested the media was trying to make Trump “look sorry” by covering the deaths of American soldiers.
