The former captain of Inter, Giuseppe Bergomi, spoke in an interview to the “Libero” publication about the Milan – Inter derby, but also about Cristi Chivu's greatest achievement on the Nerazzurri bench.
Inter start the “Madonnina Derby” with a 10-point lead over Milan. But also with that 0-1 in the tour in mind. And his former captain, Giuseppe Bergomi, warned the Nerazzurri about the great danger that the great local rival now represents.
Giuseppe Bergomi's warning: “Milan are the hardest to beat in the championship”
“For Inter, Milan are the hardest to beat in the championship. Inter attack, Milan wait and counter-attack. If you make a mistake, they can punish you. It also happened in the first leg, when Inter created a lot more, but Milan won.
When the level rose, Inter struggled”, Bergomi recalled, referring to the fact that this season, so far, Chivu's team has won only once against a Serie A giant, namely against Juventus.
Also, at the moment he sees Inter “strong, but not significantly stronger than their rivals, as many like to say. For example, we are not in the nine years dominated by Juventus”.
Giuseppe Bergomi: “What Chivu does in the championship was not a certainty”
As for Chivu, Bergomi admits that “Chivu also surprised me a little”. The reason? “Beyond the poor performance in the Champions League, what he does in the Championship was not a certainty.
I think his greatest achievement was the ability to quickly win players over. He won over everyone immediately, and this can be seen on the field”, pointed out the former Italian international, who not long ago said that “the way in which the Romanian technician communicates his ideas is crucial”.
