How the decision to kill Khamenei was made. The event that precipitated the operation

Israel's decision to remove Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei was taken last November and the plan would be implemented after about six months, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Thursday, quoted by Reuters, taken by Agerpres.

Khamenei was killed in the early hours of the Israeli-American campaign launched on Saturday against Iran.

“Already in November we were summoned by the prime minister in a very limited format and the prime minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) set the goal of eliminating Khamenei,” Katz told the N12 television channel.

The plan was eventually shared with Washington and advanced in January after the outbreak of anti-government protests in Iran, when the Israeli government was concerned that religious leaders in Tehran might decide to launch an attack against Israel and US targets in the Middle East, the Israeli minister said.

Israel has consistently stated that its goal is to eliminate the existential threat posed by Tehran's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
