The Saudi football league, the Saudi Pro League (SPL), has officially informed clubs in the competition that matches will go ahead as scheduled, despite the military conflict in the area.
Attacked by the US and Israel, Iran responded by launching missiles at targets in neighboring states, including Saudi Arabia. Thus, the United States embassy in the capital Riyadh was the target of a drone attack, according to the Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia.
Saudi league informs clubs: football continues despite conflict in Middle East
Despite the danger, football continues in Saudi Arabia. Sources consulted by The Athletic speak of a growing state of unease among the players of the technical staff, others confirmed that the families of several players have already left the region for their safety.
An employee from one of the clubs revealed that “The SPL has sent a letter to the clubs saying it is safe to continue playing, but many people here are not convinced“.
“Many of the foreign players just want to leave the region. Some have already managed to get their families out of the country. The events have shaken them all.
There is a contradiction between SPL claims that we are safe and national hazard alerts warning us to stay away from the bridge and certain buildings. We are still training as normal and we are told that this weekend's games will be played but things could change if players start pulling out. I don't see how they can guarantee our safety,” he added.

Other countries in the region have postponed matches in response to the escalation of the conflict.
Qatar has canceled all matches for the time being and uncertainty also hangs over the Finalissima, the match between European and South American champions Spain and Argentina, scheduled for Doha on March 27.
On top of that, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has postponed the AFC Champions League matches.
