Kim Jong Un on Tuesday inspected a Choe Hyon-class warship, one of two launched last year at a time when North Korea is trying to strengthen its naval capabilities, notes Agerpres, citing the European press agency.

The North Korean leader also supervised a missile launch on Wednesday which, according to KCNA, was carried out “successfully”.

The tests came shortly after the United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran aimed at destroying its nuclear program, missiles and navy, and shortly after the workers' party congress held every five years, during which Kim Jong Un reiterated his commitment to strengthen the military capabilities of his nuclear-armed country and promised a firm response to any threat.

“Every year during the new five-year plan period, we must build two surface ships of this class or a higher class“said Kim Jong Un after the sea trials.

The third ship, which the North Korean leader inspected on Wednesday, is under construction, according to KCNA.
