Sorin Ghionea (46 years old), double champion with FCSB, analyzed the complicated situation in which his former team is.
The former defender spoke about missing out on qualifying for the play-offs for the first time since the system was implemented in the Super League, and had a dig at rivals who are rejoicing at getting rid of FCSB.

“It's a little disappointing, though I would like all the teams in the play-offs, who are probably now enjoying this failure of Stella, to qualify in a group of a European competition, bring points for Romania and increase Romania's coefficient, and only then enjoy.
Until then, FCSB is the only team that brought points for Romania and that increased the coefficient. And he deserves to be congratulated. Yes, he had a worse season. And there are several reasons. We all know them, they know them too, and they need to do an analysis.
But, I repeat, Romania needs qualifications in the European groups to increase the coefficient. That way it would not be necessary to play so many preliminary rounds. I want the teams with mustaches and smiles on their faces to be in the European groups. Until now, only CFR and Craiova can say that. Otherwise, they were only in the preliminaries. They did not reach the groups of a European competition”, said Sorin Ghionea.

He then continued: “They have to see what the problems were. They know them and they will certainly do an analysis and bring in valuable players, which they need. Orium, FCSB have valuable players, but they also need a bit of luck and motivation.
I don't believe in the exchange of generations. Players who are often together establish certain relationships. They were unlucky, there were refereeing mistakes, everything. I hope they win the play-out and be again the team that will represent Romania in the European cups. Let's hope there will be more.”
The champion will be the team that manages everything best: sports, mentally, physical recovery. I don't know who will win. I hope that my “Star” wins the play-out and goes to the groups of a European competition, as it has done many times.
