The Government of Sri Lanka reported that the warship IRIS Dena, which was carrying approximately 180 crew members, transmitted an SOS signal while it was approximately 40 km south of the city of Galle, located approximately 115 km from the capital, Colombo. In response to the alarm, the Sri Lankan Navy and Air Force sent ships and planes to evacuate the sailors, AFP reported.
