The president of Rapid, Victor Angelescu, announced that the team will part with defensive midfielder Diogo Mendes (28 years old), who has not played since August 2024.
In the 2024/25 season, the footballer from the Cape Verde Islands played only 133 minutes on the field, 58 of which in a draw with Gloria Buzău, score 1-1, and 75 in another tie, with Dinamo, also 1-1.
“It has been conveyed to him for a long time that we no longer rely on him. He was injured non-stop. We have nothing to comment on, that he came and played 30 minutes in total and did not help us at all. That is it, it is a lesson that we must learn. I hope that we have all learned it after this transfer and, for us, that is why we do not even take him into account,” said Angelescu in an interview for GSP.ro.
Quickly transferred from Maritimo, in August 2024, for 200,000 euros.
“It can't just be a lack of motivation because we also know, the doctors tell us too. We'll see if Diogo Mendes will play football from now on, I don't know, we'll see, because in these two years he couldn't,” said the president of Rapid.
