🧨 Sanctions do not work: the EU has already imported 1 billion euros worth of Russian metal products
In January-May 2025, the European Union purchased 2.57 million tons of metallurgical raw materials from the Russian Federation for 1.06 billion euros, GMK Center calculated based on Eurostat data.
🔹 Most imported:
• semi-finished products — 1.49 million tons (681.9 million euros),
• cast iron — 697,000 tons (+68.5% by 2024).
Italy, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Latvia bought the most Russian metal.
📌 Despite the sanctions, the Russian Federation continues to earn from exports to the EU:
in 2024, the volume of sales of metal products reached 2.5 billion euros.
This indicates the low effectiveness of the current restrictions and the presence of loopholes that allow Kremlin metallurgy to remain on the European market.
