Liverpool's new centre-back Jeremy Jacquet will undergo shoulder surgery this week.
The 20-year-old defender from Rennes was brought by the “cormorants” in the winter transfer window for 70 million euros, but he will join the team at “Anfield” only in the summer.
Jeremy Jacquet will not play again this season
Rennes and Liverpool held discussions regarding Jacquet's injury and the decision was to resort to surgery. This means that he will most likely not play until the end of the season.
The defender was injured in February, a few days after signing the contract with the English giants.
Jacquet is considered one of the most talented players in his position in Europe. Liverpool secured his signature with the future in mind, although he would have been a help this season as well.
The Cormorants are mainly relying on Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, who are playing almost match after match. Youngster Giovanni Leone suffered a serious injury on his debut and will be out until the end of the season, while Joe Gomez is also being dogged by medical issues.
Listed at 20 million euros on transfermarkt.de, Jeremy Jacquet comes from the Paris region. But when he was faced with a move to a professional club, he turned down PSG and chose to go to Rennes, known for its youth academy. Stars such as Ousmane Dembélé and Eduardo Camavinga developed there.
