in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, students met with employees and managers of Norilsk Nickel / Economic news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, students learned about working at Norilsk Nickel from the company’s employees and managers. The meetings were held in educational institutions of Krasnoyarsk and Achinsk: Krasnoyarsk Industrial and Metallurgical College, Achinsk College of Industrial Technologies, Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Polytechnic Institute of Siberian Federal University.

The company notes that meetings with young people are a traditional format. Students get a chance to learn about working at Norilsk Nickel, and for the company it is an opportunity to present programs for students and young employees.

The director of the Norilsk enrichment plant Sergei Smolnikov, the senior technologist of the smelting shop of the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant Denis Didenko, the head of the thermal automation and measurement shop of NTEK JSC Evgeniy Babushkin, the director of the building materials plant of the Norilsk Supply Complex Andrei Kiselev, as well as young employees who themselves recently received diplomas and got into the company spoke with the students. Students learned about employment at Norilsk Nickel, working conditions, personnel needs and career opportunities. Students of 2-5 years were also told about the “Professional Start” paid internship program, and a “Career Master” business game was played for first-year students.

“We came to Krasnoyarsk as a team to tell students why it is worth living in Norilsk and working at Norilsk Nickel. We are constantly opening new areas of work, launching investment projects, and we need a large number of students. Every year the company attracts over 500-600 students for internships, and we are ready to hire about 1,000 graduates of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions for permanent work,” said Anastasia Stepanova, head of Norilsk Nickel’s youth affairs department.

The live dialogue format is also indispensable due to the remoteness of the cities where the company’s main production is concentrated. This is not only Norilsk, but also Monchegorsk in the Murmansk region. The meetings allow us to dispel myths about life in the Arctic and reveal both work and everyday aspects.

“Students are concerned about food prices, living conditions, and the climate, because there are many stereotypes around life in the North, but not all of them are true. Therefore, we are pleased to tell you that Norilsk, for example, is actually a very lively and hospitable city. I am sure that this format of communication helps young people better navigate and understand where they can go after graduation and what awaits them. We, having learned their interests and requests, try to adapt, develop the necessary events and programs to make our youth even more interesting and comfortable,” commented the head of the workshop of the Norilsk Fuel and Energy Company, Evgeny Babushkin.

According to students, direct dialogue with company representatives is really useful and helps to make a more informed approach to choosing an employer.

“If Norilsk Nickel comes to our university, it’s always big. I’ve been attending company presentations for two years in a row and I’m already seriously thinking about what if it’s really worth going to Norilsk and trying myself as a metallurgical production worker. Opportunities for professional growth and fulfillment are important to me, and Norilsk Nickel is exactly the kind of company that takes everything seriously,” shared Milena Ignatenko, a 2nd year student at the Department of Materials Science and Materials Processing Technologies at the Polytechnic Institute of Siberian Federal University.

Norilsk Nickel has long been building strategic partnerships with educational institutions in different regions of Russia. Communication with students is not limited only to the Krasnoyarsk Territory – company representatives also visited Kazan, Ufa, Vladikavkaz, Yekaterinburg, Magnitogorsk and other cities. Interaction with educational institutions is aimed both at attracting young people to the company and at developing competencies for the mining and metallurgical industry as a whole.
