The opening ceremony of the All-Russian festival of student sports “Univer League” took place in Krasnoyarsk. This was reported by the press service of the regional government.
Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Mikhail Kotyukov, together with the Chairman of the Russian Student Sports Union Sergei Kryukov, launched the competition in the multifunctional center of Siberian Federal University.
“Seven years ago, the best World Winter Universiade took place in Krasnoyarsk, and today you are starting a new tradition – the UniverLeague student sports festival. I am sure that the week in Krasnoyarsk will be remembered by each of you. I wish the competitions to be bright, the victories to be well-deserved, and the friendship that will arise here to be strong and for centuries. I really want you to return to Krasnoyarsk. May you be given worthy hospitality and may you leave a piece of yourself here,” Mikhail Kotyukov addressed the competition participants.
A welcoming address from the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, also sounded from the stage. The head of state congratulated the participants on the start of the festival and wished them good, unforgettable impressions from the large-scale sports festival.
“It is gratifying that the capital of the 2019 World Winter Universiade, Krasnoyarsk, is once again gathering at its stadiums, ice palaces and classrooms a large, well-coordinated team of participants: active, energetic, purposeful young men and women from many regions of our country. I know that ahead of you is not only an intense competitive struggle, but also a rich educational and business program, friendly, informal communication. I am confident that the festival will make an active contribution to the development of student sports, the promotion of the values of physical culture and a healthy lifestyle,” Vladimir Putin said in his congratulations.
The festival brought together more than 3,000 participants from 49 regions of Russia. Young athletes compete in 27 disciplines, from classic volleyball and swimming to innovative sports such as physical sports, sports programming and drone racing. Student competitions are held at the venues of the XXIX World Winter Universiade 2019.
In addition to competitions, representatives of student sports clubs will take part in an educational and business program. They will enjoy open dialogues with famous athletes, panel discussions on the development of university sports, lectures, master classes and consultations.
The award ceremony for the winners and the official closing of the UniverLeague will take place on March 2.
