Iglesias' lawyers accuse the leader of the leftist Sumar bloc of making offensive statements against the singer. Diaz accused him in a post on social networks of “sexual exploitation” and “slavery” towards former employees.

The lawyers are demanding a “public rectification” from Diaz, as well as compensation to the singer “in a reasonable amount based on the extent of the damage caused by the dissemination of the insulting and defamatory content.”

“I defend working women against anyone who violates their dignity and rights and I do not intend to stop doing so,” the deputy prime minister said on the Bluesky platform on Tuesday. “Women will no longer remain silent,” she wrote.

At the beginning of January, the Spanish prosecutor's office initiated proceedings against Iglesias, now 82. The accusations against the singer were made by two of his former employees. The events that were the subject of the proceedings allegedly occurred between January and October 2021 at residences in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas.

“Horrifying testimonies of former employees of Julio Iglesias. Sexual exploitation and slavery with a power structure based on constant aggression,” Diaz wrote on social networks at the time.

At the end of January, the Spanish prosecutor's office discontinued the case. In her opinion, Spanish courts do not have the competence to hear the case.

Julio Iglesias is a Spanish singer and composer, one of the best-selling artists in the history of popular music. He has recorded in many languages and sold approximately 300 million records around the world.
