Several Iranian state media are confirming the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, CNN reported Sunday night.
“Iran's supreme leader has reached martyrdom,” public broadcaster IRIB reported Sunday morning.
“This great scholar and mujahid (fighter) sacrificed his life to uplift Iran … and is in the great presence of martyrs from above,” the state-affiliated Mehr news agency was quoted as saying by CNN.
The announcement comes after the US and Israel said Khamenei was killed in a series of joint attacks on the nation by the two countries.
Earlier, the Iranian press had announced that the daughter, son-in-law and grandson of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were also killed in the American and Israeli attacks.
