The Israeli government has received an official update on the removal of the Iranian Supreme Leader and his body has been removed from the ruins of his palace. Khamenei's body has been found and confirmed dead, an Israeli official said, according to Reuters.
The Times of Israel reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has seen the photo of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's body.
The attacks targeted several strategic targets in Iran, including Khamenei's palace, military and nuclear facilities. Explosions were reported in Tehran and other cities, and satellite images show significant destruction in the area of the Iranian leader's residence.
Also, Israel's ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, informed high-ranking officials in Washington about the removal of Iran's supreme leader, according to Reuters.
Satellite images show a black cloud of smoke at the secure compound of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, in Tehran. The footage also shows collapsed buildings within the compound, which usually serves as Khamenei's residence and the main venue for receiving high-ranking officials.
Iranian state media and the supreme leader's office condemned the attack and called the reports part of a disinformation campaign, saying “the enemy is resorting to mental warfare, all must be aware.”
The attacks come at a time of major tensions in the Middle East, following earlier strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and attacks by Tehran-backed Hamas on Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that operations would continue, targeting “thousands of targets of the terrorist regime” in the next few days.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 86, has ruled Iran since 1989 and holds supreme authority over the government, military and judiciary. Over the decades, he has expanded his regional influence, promoted Iran's nuclear program, and maintained a hostile policy toward the United States and Israel.
Khamenei's death represents a major turning point in the Middle East, and the international community is closely monitoring developments. Tensions in the region can escalate quickly, with far-reaching political and military implications.
