This year, on February 27, the Podtyosovskaya Repair and Operation Base (REB) of the fleet, a branch of the Yenisei River Shipping Company (part of the Norilsk Nickel group), celebrates its anniversary. The largest ship repair enterprise beyond the Urals, which ensures the operation of a key link in the company’s river logistics, is turning 90 years old.

The history of the base began with forced wintering. In 1933, a caravan of 29 ships of the shipping company, returning to Krasnoyarsk from the final voyage of navigation, was frozen in ice just 432 kilometers from the home port. Rivermen found refuge in a channel behind Bolshoi Kekursky Island. The wintering was successful, and the management came up with the idea of ​​organizing a permanent backwater with ship repair workshops in this place.

The approval of the legendary polar explorer Otto Schmidt, who headed the Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route in those years, was significant. In 1935, he chose a place near the village of Podtesovo for a future base. And on February 27, 1936, the final decision on construction was made. Work began to boil instantly: in parallel with the construction of workshops and a dam, residential buildings, kindergartens and schools were built. On the site of the first dugouts, a comfortable settlement of river workers grew up.

Today Podtyosovskaya electronic warfare remains a strategic facility. About 150 ships winter in the backwater, constituting the “working core” of the shipping company. The bulk of the large-tonnage fleet is based here, including river-sea class vessels that operate in the Yenisei Gulf. This eliminates the need for motor ships to overcome the difficult Kazachinsky threshold for navigation.

The base's capacity allows for a full cycle of maintenance, repair and modernization. The unique slip, the largest beyond the Urals, is capable of simultaneously lifting up to 20 ships. The parts necessary for repairs are manufactured in our own workshops.

For the village of Podtyosovo, the enterprise is a city-forming enterprise. About 1,000 people work here – both sailing crews and coastal services.

The enterprise became a real forge of naval personnel. Here, like nowhere else, traditions are strong and continuity of generations is developed. Representatives of 23 labor dynasties work in Podtesovo, among which there are those that date back to the very moment the fleet base was founded, and the largest ones have a total work experience of about 250 years,” emphasized Andrey Viskunov, general director of the Norilsk Nickel-Yenisei River Shipping Company.

The electronic warfare anniversary became the second significant event for the industry this year. Let us remind you that on February 5, the Yenisei River Shipping Company itself celebrated its 95th anniversary. The shipping company remains a strategic element of the economy of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and an integral part of Norilsk Nickel’s logistics, providing northern delivery and delivery of cargo for large-scale investment projects in the north of the region.
